Supernova ASASSN-15kn/PSNJ12415045-0710122 in PGC 042600: 09 June 2015

The supernova ASASSN-15kn in PGC 042600 was at first imaged at Virtual Telescope on June 7.83, as part of a cooperation with the ASAS-SN survey (ATel 7602). The same source was also indipendently found by Ciabattari et al. and reported as PSN J12415045-0710122 on the specific CBAT website.

The image above comes from the average of two, 120-seconds exposures, unfiltered, remotely collected with the PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova was estimated at mag. 16.2 (R mags for the reference stars from UCAC-4). The source is marked by two small segments. Spectroscopy shows it is a type Ia supernova around maximum light.
