V488 Sagittae = Nova Sagittae 2026 (PNV J19450648+1822422), image of a classic nova – 25 Aug. 2026
We observed V488 Sge, aka Nova Sagittae 2026 a few hours after its discovery and share our picture below.

The image above comes from the average of five, 120-second exposure, unfiltered, remotely taken with the Samyang 135+Paramount ME+ZWO ASI 6200MC Pro robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.. The transient is indicated with two white lines, both in the main picture and in the upper right insert. The whole Sagitta “the “Arrow”) constellation is visible with its main stars, with a couple of of deep sky objects, M 27 and M 71.
We observed the object before it earned an official designation, beside the temporary one PNV J19450648+182242
The image below comes from the average of five, 3-second exposures,remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit robotic unit, part of our network, using a standard photometric R-filter.
V488 Sge = Nova Sagittae 2026, close-up: 25 August. 2026.
The magnitude of the transient we measured was R=6.1 (R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue): it was discovered on 25 Aug. 2026.
We will keep an eye on this nova for the next weeks.
