Supernova SN 2026cff in the NGC 3660 spiral galaxy: an image – 15 Feb. 2026
We observed supernova SN 2026cffn in the beautiful galaxy NGC 3660 and we’re pleased to share our image below.

The image above comes from the average of 10, 120-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project and installed in Manciano, Italy. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left insert.
We estimated SN 2026cff as bright as mag. 15.8 (R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). SN 2026cff was discovered on 6 Feb. 2026 and it is a type II supernova.
NGC 3660, the host galaxy is a nice barred spiral located roughly 200 million light-years away in the Crater constellation.
It is an active galactic nucleus (AGN). It is classified as a Seyfert type II galaxy.
