Next 8 Dec. 2022, we will have an occultation of Mars by the Moon. While already very rare, it will be even more special, as it happens on the night the Red Planet will be at opposition. The Virtual Telescope Project will show it live: join the show from the comfort of your home!

Next 8 Dec. 2022, planet Mars will be at opposition, that is at its best in our sky. Quite incredibly, on the same night it will be occulted by an almost full Moon (technically, the Moon at opposition). The Virtual Telescope Project will show you this very rare event live, online.
Our live feed will start on 8 Dec. 2022 at 04:00 UTC, so that you can enjoy both planet Mars occultation and opposition.
