NGC 5154 and supernova SN 2020bcq: a image – 25 Mar. 2020
We captured supernova SN 2020bcq and its host galaxy NGC 5154, as part of our supernova follow-up program, with a number of other galaxies all around. Here it is our image.

The image above comes from the average of nine, 300-seconds exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available at Virtual Telescope. SN 2020bcq is indicated by an arrow in the upper left insert.
We estimated SN 2020bcq as bright as mag. 18.3 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR1 star catalogue). This transient was discovered on 27 Jan. 2020 by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) group and it is a type Ib supernova. The host spiral galaxy, NGC 5154, is placed at about 250 millions of light years from us; in the same field of view, there is NGC 5149, a barred spiral galaxy: the pair was discovered by William Herschel on May 1, 1785.
There are more galaxies all around, visible as fuzzy spots of light, more or less evident.
