Supernova SN 2021rhu in NGC 7814 galaxy: an image – 27 Oct. 2021.
We observed again supernova SN 2021rhu in the nearby NGC 7814 spiral galaxy, as part of our supernova follow-up program: here it is our latest image.
The image above comes from the average of six, 120-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left inset.
The host is NGC 7814, a nearby spiral galaxy located at about 40 millions of light years from us and nicknamed “Little Sombrero”. As for the supernova, we estimated SN 2021rhu as bright as mag. 15.2 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue; not easy to measure, being so close to the galaxy core), significantly fainter than in our past data. This transient was discovered on 01 July 2021 by the Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) survey and it is a type Ia supernova.
Further observations will follow, weather permitting.
