Comet 15P/Finlay: an image (10 Feb. 2015)
Comet 15P/Finlay was observed again with the robotic Virtual Telescope facility, using a short and lately rare clear moment, after weeks of bad weather.
The image above comes from the average of seven, 90-seconds unfiltered exposures, remotely collected with the PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The telescope tracked at the apparent rate of the comet. The 3×3 binning was used, providing a scale of 1.8″/pixel.
Comet 15P/Finlay was discovered discovered in 1886 by William Henry Finlay (Royal Observatory, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa)
