Three months of evolution: the tail of comet 12P/Pons-Brooks between 3 Jan. and 6 Apr. 2024
We managed to put together a few images from our three-months long coverage of comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, admiring how its beautiful tail evolved.
Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: evolution of its tail and inner coma.
On the bottom of the panel, there is a short sequence showing how the inner coma looked before the comet developed a tail, with its now famous Millennium Falcon like shape; we used our 14” robotic unit.
The other pictures show the tail, its evolution from the beginning of 2024 to early April (3 months). Here we used our 10”-f/4.5 astrograph. Note that the change in orientation of the tail over time is real, as the camera orientation is the same.
