Comet 13P/Olbers: an image – 25 July 2024
Here it is a new image comet 13P/Olbers, showing the first part of its ion tail.
The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 10, 120-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The telescope tracked the object while imaging, which was just 20 deg. above the Western horizon. Twilight.
The image was carefully processed to keep both the brightest central region and faint ion tail visible.
