Asteroid (248750) Asteroidday: an image – 5 Sept. 2024
We imaged asteroid (248750) Asteroidday, named after the important Asteroid Day initiative founded in 2014.
The image above comes from the average of 7, 120-second, unguided exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. The asteroid is indicated by an arrow.
(248750) Asteroidday was discovered on 4 Sept. 2006 by Matt Dawson, musician and amateur astronomer. In 2017 the name of the asteroid was officially announced and now, 18 years after the discovery, we were pleased to spot it.
