Supernova SN 2026sqf in the NGC 3310 spiral galaxy: an image – 14 July 2026
We observed supernova SN 2026sqf in the beautiful spiral galaxy NGC 3310 and here we share our image.

The image above comes from the average of 17, 120-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project and installed in Manciano, Italy. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left insert.
We estimated SN 2026sqf as bright as mag. 11.6 (R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). SN 2026sqf was discovered on 8 July 2026 and it is a type II supernova.
The host galaxy, the outstanding spiral NGC 3310, is a starburst galaxy, showing an exceptional star formation and it is placed at about 50 million light years away from us.
We will monitor ths object on the next months.
