Comet C/2015 ER61 Panstarrs: an image (24 Aug. 2017)
After a couple of months, we observed comet C/2015 ER61 Panstarrs again. It is still showing a nice tail.
The image above comes from the average of eight, 180-seconds exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available at Virtual Telescope. The image scale is 1.2″/pixel.
Last June, we independently discovered this comet experienced a nucleus splitting. It was nice to observe this interesting object again, while it is now leaving us, on its cosmic journey
