Supernova SN 2022qku in NGC 7065A galaxy: a image – 20 Aug. 2022.

We observed the supernova SN 2022qku in the spiral galaxy NGC 7065A, as part of our supernova follow-up program: here it is our image.

The image above comes from the average of five, 180-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left inset. A satellite trail is also visible on the right.

The host galaxy is NGC 7065A, located at about 300 millions of light years. Another galaxy, NGC 7065, is also visible in the same field of view. As for the supernova, we estimated SN 2022qku as bright as mag. 15.6 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). This transient was discovered on 2 Aug. 2022 by ZTF survey and it is a type Ia supernova.
