Comet C/2021 S3 Panstarrs, NGC 6946 and NGC 6939: an image – 12 June 2024

We imaged comet C/2021 S3 Panstarrs while it shared the same spot of the sky of the famous galaxy NGC 6946 (aka “Fireworks” galaxy) and the open star cluster NGC 6939.

The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 12, 120-second unfiltered exposures, taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The telescope tracked the stars while imaging.

The comet with its broad tail is visible ob the right side of the image, while the open cluster is evident on the left side. The “Fireworks” galaxy is on the bottom center.
