Unveiling the beauty of the Cosmos: a picture worth one-million words.

The recent supernova SN 2025rbs exploded in the wonderful spiral galaxy NGC 7331. That is a truly spectacular parch in the night sky, so we wanted to admire its beauty at its best.

The almost edge-on, spiral galaxy NGC 7331 is one of the most appreciated objects of its kind up there. Located at about 40-million light years from us, it is placed in the Pegasus constellation, the “Winged Horse”. On 14 July, a supernova explosion was discovered in its arms, SN 2025rbs, the brightest supernova so far in 2025; because of this exceptional event, that galaxy in one of the most observed/images objects in the night sky.

At the Virtual Telescope Project we are following up this supernova, regularly taking images and measuring its brightness. We already published a couple of  our pictures. In one of them, we provided a more detailed description of facts.

By chance, the spot of the sky hosting that superb spiral is of particular interest, because of several more galaxies all around, often much more distant than the foreground one. The Stephan’s Quintet group really stands out, including spirals at more than 250 millions of light years. Also, the “Deer Lick Group” of galaxies is on the same line of sight of NGC 7331, but almost ten times farthest in space (hence in time).

We wanted to capture the exceptional presence of the supernova surrounded by the unique beauty of that spot of heaven and above we share our results.

The image is pretty large, be sure to click on it to get the full-res version. We hope you will enjoy carefully studying it, unveiling countless, extremely distant galaxies, behind the main actresses.
