Interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS (aka C/2025 N1 ATLAS): a new image – 5 Nov. 2025.

We succeeded imaging the interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS after its recent conjunction with the Sun, starting our post-perihelion observing season of this extraordinary object, looking forward to show it live to the community.

The image above comes from the average of two, 1200-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. An extremely bright (almost full) Moon was setting, with the target just 8 degrees above the easter horizon, almost at nautical twilight.

The cometary (diffuse) nature of the object is obvious. The bright star SW of the comet is Gaia DR3 3634786807779951232, with Gmag = 11.76.

We will continue our observations as long as possible, also sharing live images of 3I/ATLAS during a special live feed, on 17 Nov. 2025.
