Comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS fragmentation: new image – 14 Nov. 2025.

Thanks to a very short window of clear sky, we imaged comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS again and here we share our view on its broken nucleus.

The image above comes from the sigma-clipping combination of 7, 60-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. Unfortunately, we could take just a few data before clouds covered the whole sky.

Several parts (sub-nuclei or clouds of debris) are still visible, with an interesting arc-like feature on the left, in the solar direction.

The picture below shows the outcome from a 20-deg. rotational gradient, centered on the brightest unit.
