Comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS fragmentation: a new image – 2 Dec. 2025.

Here we share our new observation of comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS and its fragments.

Comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS: 02 Dec. 2025.

Comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS: 02 Dec. 2025.

The image above comes from the sigma-clipping combination of 27, 60-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. A very bright Moon was high in the sky. The dotted pattern visible on the right and somewhere else is due to residuals of stars after the sigma clipping combination was performed.

We basically see a situation similar to the one we spotted on 29 Nov., but the smaller pieces are fainter. The northernmost fragment looks a bit elongated, perhaps this is an indication it is  actually “double” or it is simply its little tail.

We will continue monitoring this comet.
