Near-Earth Asteroid 2015 FW117: 31 Mar. 2015

On 1 April 2015, the near-Earth asteroid 2015 FW117  will make a very close encounter with our planet. This ~100 meters large asteroid will reach a minimum distance from us of a bit less than 1.4 millions of  km, that is 3.6 times the mean distance of the Moon. It is worth to underline that this is a very safe distance, making this object only spectacular, with no risks of collisions at all.

The image above is the average of three, 120-seconds exposures, remotely taken with the PlaneWave 17 robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope. The robotic mount tracked the fast apparent motion of the asteroid 2015 FW117, so stars are trailing, while the asteroid is perfectly tracked.
