Comet C/2017 K2 Panstarrs and the Orion’s Belt – 4 Jan. 2024
The first image of the new year captured the faint comet C/2017 K2 Panstarrs while crossing the Orion constellation, particularly its stunning belt.
The image above comes from the combination of 19, 120-second exposures, remotely taken on 4 Jan. 2024 with the Samyang 135+Paramount ME+ZWO ASI 6200MC Pro robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The covered field of view is of 15 x 10 square degrees.
After we captured the frames above, they were carefully processed by the DeepLab team and the resulting image is provided above.
Comet C/2017 K2 Pantarrs is visible just above the center of the image, surrounded by many treasures as the Great Orioin Nebula on the bottom and the famous Horse-head nebula on the left.
The close up below, with labels, helps locating the comet.
