Supernova SN 2024igg in the NGC 5876 galaxy: an image – 6 June 2024.
We imaged supernova SN 2024igg in the barred spiral galaxy NGC 5876 and we share it here.
The image above comes from the average of five, 120-second exposures, unfiltered and unguided, remotely taken with the C14+Paramount ME+ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy.
We estimated SN 2024igg as bright as mag. 14.1 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). It was discovered on 7 May 2024 and it is a type Ia-SC supernova.
NGC 5876, the host galaxy, is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy, placed at about 150 million of light years from the Earth.
