Comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS fragmentation: new image and animation – 19 Nov. 2025.
While atmospheric turbulence was not very favorable for hi-res imaging, we captured comet C/2025 K1 ATLAS again, following up its fragmented nucleus.
The image above comes from the sigma-clipping combination of 14, 60-second unfiltered exposures, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST-10XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. While transparency was excellent, air was unstable, affecting the image resolution.
We also updated our animation of C/2025 K1 ATLAS, covering the 11 Nov. – 19 Nov. time span and showing how the inner coma evolved after the break-up.
We will continue monitoring this comet every clear night.
