The Moon and the Pleiades, a spectacular occultation: online observation – 19 April 2026
Next 19 April 2026, the Moon will occult the Pleiades, offering a marvelous show. The Virtual Telescope Project will offer you the amazing opportunity to admire the event live, online, from the comfort of your home.
On 19 April 2026, a very sharp Moon crescent will “cross” the Pleiades, one of the most beautiful deep sky gems. Of course, it is only matter of perspective, with the Moon being closer than 400.000 km and the Pleiades very far away on the foreground, at 445 light years from us: a so-called occultation.
The Virtual Telescope Project will show this amazing cosmic event live, using its panoramic astrograph, providing a spectacular view. Not only we will see the Moon, its sharp crescent and its elegant “Earthshine”, but we will also admire the young, 100-million years old stars of the Pleiades and their incredible blue hue.
The online, free session is scheduled for 19 April 2026, starting at 18:00 UTC
