Near-Earth asteroid 2017 TG4 close encounter: an image (15 Oct. 2017)

Next 21 Oct. 2017, the near-Earth asteroid 2017 TG4 will come at about 1.8 millions of km, almost five times the distance of the Moon. We captured it and we are happy to share it with you.

The image above comes from the average of five,  120-seconds exposures, remotely taken with “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″+Paramount ME+SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available at Virtual Telescope. The telescope tracked the apparent motion of the object, so stars are trailing, while the asteroid looks like a relatively faint dot of light in the center, identified by two red markers.

The size of this objects is in the range of 38-86 meters and at its min distance, next 21 Oct.  at 15:06 UT, it will have a speed relative to Earth of 11.4 km/s.
