Comet C/2012 S1 Ison: spectrum (17 Oct. 2013)
Above is a zoom on the spectrum of comet C/2012 S1 Ison we took a few nights ago, using a 100 lines/mm grating and the Celestron C14 robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope.
Five, 300-seconds exposures were averaged, with the target at about 30 deg above the eastern horizon. Other than calibrating the wavelength, we did nothing, so the plot shows the very raw data. C2 emission is likely detected.
We plan to get a better SNR one, as soon as the Moon will go away.
