Supernova SN 2023ixf in the Messier 101 spiral galaxy: a image – 23 May 2023.

We observed again the bright supernova SN 2023ixf in Messier 101 and are pleased to share this amazing image with you.

Supernova SN 2023ixf in Messier 101. 23 May 2023.

The image above comes from the average of four, 180-second, unguided exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project. The supernova is indicated by an arrow in the upper left inset. The seeing was good, so image resolution is outstanding.

We estimated SN 2023ixf as bright as mag. 10.8 (R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue), likely at is peak; please note that this is a very preliminary estimate.

As we can see, this transient is quite bright, easy to see even with small (4” in diameter) telescopes.

We will show supernova SN 2023ixf live, online, next 25 May 2023!
