Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: a new image – 8 Aug. 2023
We observed comet 12P/Pons-Brooks again, to track its evolution after its 20 July bright outburst. For sure, it is a very intriguing target.
The image above comes from the average of 13, 180-second unfiltered exposures, plus some additional processing and were remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. Images were collected during the astronomical twilight, under good seeing conditions, while the sky was not completely dark.
A few galaxies are visible on the background, as well as many stars of our Milky Way.
The coma still show its peculiar shape, with a wider, fainter halo elongated to the SE direction.
