The “Eagle” nebula (Messier 16): an image – 8 Aug. 2023.
The “Eagle” nebula, aka Messier 16, is one of the most iconic cosmic gems and we are pleased to share a picture we recently captured.
The image above comes from the average of 29, 120-second exposures, unfiltered, remotely taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The image was gently processed by the DeepLab team to show all the finest details and structures visible in the original data.
Messier 16, discovered in 1745-46 and located at about 6500 light years from us, is honestly an icon of the Cosmos. The Hubble Space Telescope captured the now legendary image of the “Pillars of Creations”, likely the most famous astronomical picture ever. The open star cluster NGC 6611 is well visible inside the denser part of the nebula (IC 4703).
The picture above covers about 1.8 degrees along the diagonals, showing the delicate, complex structure of the area.
