Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: a new image – 3 Feb. 2024
We present a new image of comet 12P/Pons-Brooks on its way to its turning point around the Sun. Let’s enjoy its beauty.
The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 25, 120-second unfiltered exposures, taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. A nice, faint tail is visible, spanning for more than 1.5 degrees.
At the time of our image, the comet was just undergoing a new, small outburst.
We will continue monitoring comet 12P/Pons-Brooks over the next weeks, as it approaches its perihelion, next 21 April.
