We imaged supernova SN 2024any in NGC 1222, one of the brightest ones of these first weeks of the new year.

The image above comes from the average of six, 180-second exposures, unfiltered and unguided, remotely taken with the C14+Paramount ME+ST8-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The image was gently processed to show all the finest details and structures visible in the original data.
We estimated SN 2024any as bright as mag. 13.3 (unfiltered, R-mags for the reference stars from the Gaia DR2 star catalogue). It was discovered on 19 Jan. 2024 and it is a type Ia supernova.
NGC 1222, the host galaxy, is a lenticular one and it is placed at about 100 million of light years from the Earth.
