Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: a new image – 13 Feb. 2024
After several cloudy nights, we collected a new image of comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, displaying such a beautiful tail.
The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 5, 120-second unfiltered exposures, taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The target was less than 15 degrees above the NW horizon while we were imaging it. A nice, faint tail is visible, spanning for more than 1.5 degrees.
We will continue monitoring comet 12P/Pons-Brooks over the next weeks, as it approaches its perihelion, next 21 April.
