Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: a new image – 18 Feb. 2024

Despite it was very low above the horizon in the astronomical twilight, comet 12P/Pons-Brooks looks very nice in this image

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: 18 Feb. 2024.

The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 13, 120-second unfiltered exposures, taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. At the imaging time, the target was less than 10 degrees above the NE horizon, in the morning twilight. A nice tail is visible, spanning for more than 1  degrees. On the top, evidence of the LBN 435 is clearly present.

We will continue monitoring comet 12P/Pons-Brooks over the next weeks, as it approaches its perihelion, next 21 April.
