Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: a new image – 6 Apr. 2024

While it is now leaving the Northern Hemisphere, we captured comet 12P/Pons-Brooks again. See our image below.

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: 6 Apr. 2024.

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks: 6 Apr. 2024.

The image above comes from the sigma clipping combination of 6, 90-second unfiltered exposures, taken with the ARTEC250+Paramount ME+C3Pro61000EC robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The telescope tracked the object while imaging. Comet very low (12 deg.) above the horizon, twilight. A few art-sat trails are also visible.

The tail is glorious, with plenty of details.

A wide field image is available here, while a close-up on the inner coma is available here.
