Arp 273 and an optical transient in the same field of view: 9 Dec. 2025

Last month we imaged Apr 273, a wonderful pair of interacting galaxies, 300 million light years away. Here we share our picture.

Arp 273 (UGC 1810 & 1813), with transient AT 2025aezd: 9 Dec. 2025.

Arp 273 (UGC 1810 & 1813), with transient AT 2025aezd: 9 Dec. 2025.

The image above comes from the average of 17, 300-second exposures, remotely taken with the “Elena” (PlaneWave 17″ + Paramount MEII + SBIG STL-6303E) robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy.

Arp 273 is visible on the right: the two galaxies are located at about 300 millions of light-years from us. The AT 2025aezd transient appears in the faint galaxy WISEA J022101.95+391339.4, located on the upper right of the image above (and marked in the upper left insert). It was discovered on 25 Nov. 2025 and as of now its nature was not spectroscopically confirmed.
