Near-Earth Asteroid 2026 JH2 extremely close encounter: an image – 16 May 2026.

While waiting for its close approach, we managed to take a picture of near-Earth asteroid 2026 JH2 and here we share it.

Near-Earth Asteroid 2026 JH2: 16 May 2026.

Near-Earth Asteroid 2026 JH2: 16 May 2026.

The image above comes from a single 300-second exposure, remotely taken with the Celestron C14+Paramount ME+SBIG ST10-XME robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project in Manciano, Italy. The telescope tracked the apparent motion of the asteroid, showing as a dot in the center of the image, marked by an arrow: this is why the stars look like streaks.

When we took our image, asteroid 2026 JH2 was at about 1.5-million of kilometers from us and safely approaching our planet.

This 15-33 meter large asteroid will reach its minimum distance (about 91.000 km, 24% of the average lunar distance) from us on 18 May 2026, at 22:00 UTC (source: Nasa/JPL). Of course, there are no risks at all for our planet.
