Potentially Hazardous Asteroid (143649) 2003 QQ47: 13 Mar. 2014

While waiting for the relatively close (and safe) encounter of the potentially hazardous asteroid 2003 QQ47, a new image was captured via the Virtual Telescope, even if the sky conditions were far from the ideal.

Above is an image of 2014 QQ47, remotely taken with the PlaneWave 17 robotic unit part of the Virtual Telescope Project. It is the average of two, 120-seconds exposures and the robotic mount tracked the object while imaging it.

Astrometry was also sent to Minor Planet Center.

Next 23 Mar. 2014, at 19:30 UT, the Virtual Telescope will show this asteroid live, online.
