The Moon, Venus and Mercury: a early morning meeting – 13 Nov. 2020

Moon, Venus and Mercury did it again: a nice meeting in the sky, early in the morning. Here they are a few images.

Every time the Moon is close in the sky to a bright planet, I must have a look. And what if you have more? Last week, early in the morning, not only our satellite was in conjunction with Venus, the brightest planet, but Mercury was there, too, making the opportunity just precious. No question: I woke up at 5 am and went outside, on my balcony: the Moon and Venus were shining in all their glory, really a superb view. I immediately prepared my imaging gear, this time selecting one of my Canon 5DmIV DSLR bodies and a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens, all this on a sturdy tripod.

While waiting for planet Mercury to join the show, I really enjoyed looking at Venus and our Moon. I can look at this thousands of times, it is always like the first one: awesome. A beautiful Earthshine was visible, too.

Finally I had the first glimpse of Mercury, rising above a roof. It was a obvious sight by naked eye, also because the sky was very clear (even if a few clouds were around…).

The star Spica was on stage, too, and I added a few labels on the image below to tell you “who is who”.

I hope you enjoyed this quick report and hope you will look for these things by yourself.

Keep looking up!
