Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks and the Triangulum Galaxy – 20 Mar. 2024.

We are pleased to share this image of comet 12P/Pons-Brooks while it was crossing the same spot of the sky where the famous Triangulum Galaxy (aka Messier 33), is.

Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks and the Triangulum Galaxy (M 33). 20 Mar. 2024.

The image above comes from the combination of ten, 120-second exposures, remotely taken with the Samyang 135+Paramount ME+ZWO ASI 6200MC Pro robotic unit available as part of the Virtual Telescope Project facility in Manciano, Italy. The covered field of view is about of 16 x 11 square degrees. Bright Moon in the sky.

Beside comet 12P/Pons-Brooks, Messier 33, the famous Triangulum Galaxy is well visible. The latter is about 2.7 million of light years from us.

Quite curiously, this comet also apparently met Messier 31, that is both the largest galaxies in the proximity of our Milky Way, all of them belonging to the so-called Local Group.
